Mauritius Lifts The Travel Ban On South Africa

After closing its borders to South Africa due to the spread of a new Covid-19 variant, Mauritius is now happy to announce the lift of the travel ban on South Africa since Friday 07th January 2022. The island is happy to finally welcome South Africans who wish to come to visit.

Commercial flights from South Africa are resuming

Mauritius has now resumed flights from and to the countries concerned namely, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia. For safe travel, travellers must contact airlines or tour operators in order to check flights’ availability and Covid-19 restrictions to receive protocols. Mr. Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), expresses his pleasure to welcome South Africans travellers again.

‘’We are very pleased that South Africans can once again travel to Mauritius. The Covid-19 has placed significant pressure on all nations to do the right thing and we thank the South Africans and the South African travel industry for their patience in this regard.’’

Continuity of sanitary protocols

The Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority also stated that the authorities are continuously implementing Covid-19 responses and are currently prioritising the rollout of booster doses for double-vaccinated individuals. Vaccination of 15- and 18-year-old has also been implemented and is well underway. Mauritian authorities are confident in their ability to manage effectively the recent increase in the number of infections on the island. They are making sure to follow professional world-leading scientific advice for the safety of all.
