The education system in Mauritius

As a former British colony, Mauritius education system follows the British system. The system is divided into different levels – pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary, where both English and French are compulsory. Children usually join primary school at the age of 5 and study for a total of 6 years to obtain their certificate of primary education. Then, students are asked to complete another 4 years of study and write their O-levels in at least 6 subjects. Those who are led to continue for college must complete 2 more years of study to prepare for their A-Level examinations given by the University of Cambridge.

Mauritius international schools for expats students

Of all the schools in Mauritius, international schools are probably one of the best ones to consider for expats students on the island. Their international standard of schooling allows a smoother transition between schools from all parts of the world, no matter where you come from. These establishments follow a curriculum model from the UK, US, France, among others. Primary schools may be delivered in any language (as often, many languages are taught) but the main languages remain English or French, depending on the school chosen. International schools also provide accreditation recognised internationally such as the international baccalaureate.
