The ‘Best in Travel’ annual list is an anticipated one as travel experts’ knowledge in the travel industry helps in giving travelers the best experiences, each and every year. With hundreds of destinations available, all having their special features, beauty is not the only factor taken into consideration. In fact, in order to create a shortlist, experts guide and travel professionals observe the readiness of each country to welcome travelers in the best way possible.

For 2022, the panel based their choice of the top 10 countries to visit based on their topicality and the additional benefits they offer to visitors to create unique experiences. The must-visit countries selected must also commit to sustainable tourism practices. This has for objective to show the positive impact of travelers on the ecology and how their actions and sustainable choices help in supporting the community of the country they visit and better inform the readers interested.

Mauritius was thrilled to learn about their ranking in the top three, expressed Hon. Steven Obeegadoo, Deputy Prime Minister of the island: ‘’ We’re delighted that Mauritius has been recognised by Lonely Planet as a must-visit destination for 2022. Mauritius has been consistently celebrated in recent years for developing sustainable activities and practices for incoming tourists. From our multitude of green zones, including forests, parks and nature reserves, to our offering of eco-friendly activities such as electric biking and the banning of single-use plastics, Mauritius is an exemplary case of eco-tourism in action.’’

Since Mauritius has been fully reopening its borders, this is extraordinary news for the island which had to shut down the tourism industry which was a very important part of the island’s economy.

Lonely Planet list also includes Top 10 Cities, Top 10 Regions and Top 10 Best Value Destinations.
